As you may have heard Client Server recently opened its first international office in Sydney, Australia! We were fortunate enough to welcome its latest addition Alister Harrison to our London office for a month of training. We caught up with him before he left to talk about his time in UK.

An Aussie in London: Alister Harrison talks about his time at Client Server UK

What did you get up to in your time at Client Server's London office?

I spent a month learning the ropes on how to be a successful technology recruitment consultant. This ranged from learning about the different types of technology Client Server's specialist teams focus on, finding out what makes Client Server's process achieve quality results, and how the business works as a whole. My favourite and most challenging training was learning how to conduct an interview with a candidate. There were a few nerves the first few times but it got easier the more I practiced!

What are the differences you see between working in Australia and UK?

Firstly, we currently have a small team in Australia. This close-knit group of consultants will offer me both opportunities and challenges which I believe will help me with my personal and professional development. Seeing how Client Sever operates in London has really helped me shape a fantastic view of the company and has helped me realise what the long-term goal is for the Sydney office.

Culturally, besides trying to work out which tube takes me to which station and trying to gain an understanding of the amazing obsession Britons have with queuing, there are no real differences. We both have similar cultures, including a healthy dislike of each other's sporting endeavours!

What are you looking forward to back in Australia?

I am extremely keen to start my new role with Client Server Australia, and use the skills I have learnt here to become a productive member of the team. With my boss David Leadbitter at the helm and with the support of our colleagues in the UK, I feel Client Server Australia is going to have a strong future within the technology recruitment industry.

I'm also looking forward to getting back to see my dog Rosie, going for a surf and enjoying the sun and warm weather!
