Interviews and Assessment Days: Finding a Job in Recruitment

What is the interview process likely to involve?

Recruiters work quickly, so if there is interest in your profile you are likely to get a call within hours of any application. Make sure you don't ruin your chances by being unprepared. Internal recruiters will expect you to have researched the company already and will want to gauge your motivations. Prepare your answers but don't come across as scripted. This stage is easy to get through with some preparation but also very easy to mess up; first impressions are incredibly important!

All being well you will be invited to an assessment day.

How should you approach an assessment day?

Assessment days are designed to test you in multiple ways all at the same time. You will be scrutinised from the time you enter to the time you leave on everything from appearance and body language to involvement and communication style.

You will normally have to prepae and deliver a presentation - make sure you put effort into the slides and style of delivery, don't run over time and don't read from a script. Prompt cards are fine but it is important that you aware of addressing your audience. Demonstrate evidence that you emoby the traits that we discussed above, avoid just saying "I'm competitive."

Group tasks will be conducted to assess your confidence and ability to communicate - you will be surrounded by people who don't know
