We're super excited to announce that we have opened our brand new office in Sydney, Australia! To celebrate, we caught up with it's Associate Director David Leadbitter on how he ended up there, and what to expect from life down under!

Recruitment in Australia: An Interview with David Leadbitter

What brought you to Australia? What’s your story?

"In 2015 my (now) fiancé and I decided that before life became too serious and we had ‘real’ responsibilities (like kids!) we would take time to travel and potentially see what living and working in Australia would be like.  It was tough to leave Client Server at the time as I had built up some great relationships, both internally and with clients and candidates, but if we didn’t do it then, we never would!

Beyond our first week in Sydney in January 2016, we had no fixed travel plan – in the end we travelled around Australia, South East Asia, New Zealand and west coast USA, returning to Sydney in December.  After a short-term contract internal recruitment role at Tabcorp, I rejoined Client Server to launch their Sydney office!"

What are the benefits of working in Australia?

"Let’s start with the obvious – the weather! It’s generally fantastic – brilliant sunshine and sparkling blue skies! The Sydney CBD is relatively compact so most places are within walking distance, including Hyde Park and Circular Quay - it really is quite something to be within metres of the glistening Sydney Opera House on your lunchtime run!

Public transport is great and commuting times are relatively short – a lot of people get a boat from places like Manly and Rose Bay to the CBD, which is a spectacular way of getting to work!

There are similar opportunities to London in terms of the types of companies that are based here, the after-work social life and the general feel of the CBD, just with a little less traffic and cleaner air! The cost of living in Sydney is high but in my view, similar to London, and salaries here more than allow a good standard of living.

Finally, being able to get home and jump straight on the beach, in the ocean, on the barbie – I feel very lucky to be living here."

How is setting up the Client Server Australian office going?

"It’s going well – we have a great office in the heart of Sydney’s CBD and a new Consultant joining the team later in the year.  We’re establishing relationships here with some of our current clients in UK and beginning relationships with new clients – it’s a busy and exciting time!"

How can people get in contact with you about working with our Australia division?

"The best way to contact me is on my mobile – 0401 758 402 – or at ."
